The Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority must create and maintain a registry of doctors who recommend medical marijuana. Beginning January 1, 2026, doctors must register to make these recommendations. Only Oklahoma-licensed medical, osteopathic, and podiatric doctors who have completed their first residency qualify. The Authority cannot process recommendations from doctors who have not completed that residency. Doctors must meet their licensing board’s requirements and complete medical marijuana education before joining the registry and every year afterward. The Authority’s director sets initial and continuing education rules; the three licensing boards may help identify approved courses. Recommending doctors cannot share a physical address with a licensed marijuana dispensary. State and local governments cannot arrest, prosecute, penalize, or deny doctors rights solely for recommending medical marijuana. That protection also covers monitoring, treating, or prescribing scheduled medicines to licensed medical marijuana patients. Licensing boards can still discipline doctors for poor patient evaluations or violations of patient-care standards. When a doctor finds that continued marijuana use no longer meets legal requirements, the doctor must notify the Authority. The patient’s license is then immediately voided, with no right to an individual proceeding.
