Beginning November 1, 2026, experienced Oklahoma nurses have an easier path to prescribing without physician supervision. Eligible roles are Certified Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Certified Nurse-Midwives. Applicants need 6,240 clinical practice hours with physician-supervised prescribing authority; qualifying hours completed before November 1, 2025, count. The Oklahoma Board of Nursing cannot require applicants to repeat the initial prescribing application requirements. Applicants still need a current license, good standing, and proof of the required hours.
Beginning November 1, 2026, Oklahoma physicians can charge advanced practice registered nurses directly for supervision. The fee must appear in the written supervision agreement and reflect the physician’s actual duties. It must follow Board fair-market-value rules or an amount the physician and nurse agree on. These restrictions apply to payments directly from nurses, not employer payments to physicians.
