Donate refunds to veteran burials

For tax year 2026 and later, Oklahoma individual and corporate tax forms include a box to donate part of your refund to the Indigent Veteran Burial Program. Money goes to a state revolving fund run by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The fund can repay cemeteries or funeral homes up to $500 per veteran. Total repayments in calendar year 2017 were limited to $20,000. If you donated by mistake, you can claim a refund within three years from the return due date. Refunded amounts are taken out of next year’s donations and moved to the Income Tax Withholding Refund Account.

Money goes to a Capital Improvement Revolving Fund managed by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The fund can earn interest and pay for equipment, land, plans, and construction. Refunded amounts are taken out of next year’s donations and moved to the Income Tax Withholding Refund Account.

When this law takes effect

The law declares an emergency, so it takes effect upon passage and approval. It also states a July 1, 2026 effective date for the act.
