Lower plate fees for Bronze Star recipients

Effective upon passage, Rhode Island law allows special plates for U.S. Bronze Star Medal recipients. Eligible cars and commercial vehicles must have a gross weight of 12,000 pounds or less. Recipients do not pay the registration fee or the $5 transfer charge for these plates. The plates display “Bronze Star Medal” across the top, the official medal insignia, and numerals. After the holder dies, a surviving spouse can receive the plate for life or until remarriage.
