2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Pharmacies gain audit and error protections

Rhode Island limits pharmacists to one audit every 12 months, unless fraud or misrepresentation is reasonably suspected. Clerical, typing, writing, or computer errors in pharmacy records do not count as willful violations. Criminal penalties for these errors require proof of intent to commit fraud. These protections take effect upon passage, and federal audit requirements still apply.

Pharmacy audit violations can bring penalties

Rhode Island's attorney general can enforce the pharmacy audit rules. The attorney general can impose fines, penalties, or other sanctions for noncompliance and take additional steps to ensure compliance. The law sets no specific penalty amounts.
