Covered workers get pensions, not cash

Beginning July 1, 2025, covered Rhode Island contractors and subcontractors must provide required retirement or pension benefits instead of cash. This rule covers public works and school transportation contracts over $1,000. It applies to benefits set by the state labor director for the worker’s job classification. Workers employed for 90 days or less are exempt. The Department of Labor and Training may require proof that employers provide the benefit.
