Annual permits for hauling boats

Rhode Island transportation officials can issue permits for hauling boats and marine assets that cannot be easily divided, within the state. These permits cost $400, last up to one year, and waive $40 single-trip fees for loads under 130,000 pounds. Loads must be 55–80 feet long, no wider than 12 feet 4 inches, and weigh no more than 130,000 pounds total or 25,000 pounds per axle. Holiday and rush-hour travel restrictions still apply, along with required warning lights, signs, flags, and permit documents. Travel is barred through construction zones with reduced lane widths, over the Blackstone River Viaduct carrying I-295, and over the Kingston Road Bridge carrying I-95.
