Rhode Island expands unclaimed property coverage

Effective upon passage, the law expands Rhode Island’s unclaimed-property rules. The General Treasurer or a designee can identify additional types of intangible property for state acceptance. Coverage also includes amounts payable from trusts or custodial funds for employee benefits, such as pensions, health coverage, and severance. Owners gain broader coverage, while businesses and others holding the added property face the chapter’s existing requirements.
