Municipal water providers can limit service

Effective upon passage, the law lets municipal water commissioners limit their duty to serve applicants to residents within designated service areas. They do not have to serve the whole city or town, but choosing this limit is optional. The law covers water entities created by the state legislature and authorized to build, run, or improve municipal water supplies. These include the New Shoreham Water district and Jamestown board of water and sewer commissioners. Applicants outside a provider’s designated area may lose access to municipal water service if the provider adopts the limit.
