Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Harrisville gains limited streetlight power authority

The Harrisville Fire District can supply electricity only to power and maintain streetlights. This authority extends within and beyond both the district and the town of Burrillville. The charter reflects the water department merger that created the Clear River Electric and Water District. This change sets no new household charge or service schedule.

Harrisville meeting notices can move online

Harrisville Fire District meeting notices can appear in a weekly newspaper or on a digital platform instead of a daily newspaper. Notices must still appear at least one week before the meeting in a publication with circulation in Burrillville.

Harrisville committee gains more budget control

Harrisville's fire district committee can add or raise budget items by up to 5% without prior special-meeting approval. The previous limit was 2.5%. Changes above 5% still require district approval at a special meeting. The law does not itself raise the total budget or impose a new household tax.
