Pokanoket tax relief and Bristol payments

Beginning January 1, 2026, Pokanoket Management Group’s Bristol real estate and tangible personal property are exempt from municipal property taxes. The group, trustee of the Pokanoket Tribe Land Trust, must use the property directly to cultivate, preserve, and protect ancestral territory and its natural, cultural, traditional, historical, watershed, habitat, ecosystem, and archaeological resources. Rhode Island provides annual payments to Bristol equal to 27% of taxes otherwise collectible on eligible real estate. Payments fall proportionally if state funding is insufficient. Payments also fall proportionally for periods when Bristol reduces or suspends essential services to eligible facilities.

Property tax relief for wellness nonprofit

Ocean State Community Wellness, Inc. is exempt from property taxes on its real estate. The exemption lasts while it qualifies as a tax-exempt corporation.
