Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Plate funds must aid RI charities

Money from these plates that goes to the Committee must support Rhode Island-based charities. The Committee must file an annual accounting before it receives any plate funds. These rules start six months after passage.

Extra fees for Dominican plate

You pay a one-time $40 extra fee to get this plate. Of that, $20 goes to the state and $20 goes to the Committee. You also pay $10 extra at each renewal, which goes to the Committee. If you cancel early, there are no refunds. These fees apply starting six months after passage.

New Dominican heritage plate for drivers

The DMV offers a special Dominican Independence Heritage Award Committee license plate. It replaces your regular plates but keeps the same number. You must return your old plates to the DMV and keep your registration certificate in the car. The design is set by the Committee with the DMV and approved by State Police. Plates are only issued after the Committee meets the state’s minimum prepaid order and follows DMV prepayment rules. The program begins six months after passage.
