Temporary ban on waste-to-fuel plants at Quonset

The law bans thermal waste conversion facilities in the Quonset Point/Davisville Industrial Park. The Quonset Development Corporation cannot site, permit, lease, approve, build, or allow them on any property it owns, manages, leases, or controls. A covered facility uses high heat in low oxygen to turn solid waste or sewage sludge into fuels, energy, or industrial products. This protects nearby residents and the local environment by stopping new waste-to-energy projects there. Activities that were legal before this law took effect can continue. The ban expires on February 1, 2027, and the law takes effect upon passage.
