Ocean State Community Wellness Gets Tax Relief

Ocean State Community Wellness, Inc. pays no property tax on its real property while qualifying as a tax-exempt corporation. This lowers the nonprofit’s tax costs but reduces local property-tax revenue.

Pokanoket Tax Exemption With Partial Town Payments

Beginning January 1, 2026, qualifying Bristol property held by Pokanoket Management Group as Pokanoket Tribe Land Trust trustee is tax-exempt. This covers real and tangible personal property used directly to cultivate, preserve, or protect ancestral resources. Covered resources include natural, cultural, traditional, historical, watershed, habitat, ecosystem, and archaeological resources. Bristol loses property-tax revenue, but state payments generally replace 27% of the taxes otherwise due on qualifying property. Payments shrink proportionally when the annual state appropriation is too small.
