Smithfield may offer paraplegia property tax credits

Effective upon passage, the law lets Smithfield's town council create a property tax credit by local ordinance. No credit is guaranteed unless the town adopts that ordinance. Qualifying homeowners must have paraplegia, own and live in the Smithfield property, and need specially adapted housing because of paraplegia. Specially adapted housing means property changed to meet a resident's needs related to paraplegia. The law sets no credit amount, calculation method, duration, or cap; those details are left to the local ordinance.
