Woonsocket can collect more local taxes

Effective upon passage, the law lets Woonsocket collect more local taxes for one fiscal year. Its total tax levy can be up to 5.5% above the amount it levied and certified the prior year. This permission overrides other rules in Rhode Island's local tax levy chapter. The city does not have to use the full increase. Household tax bills may rise; each bill depends on the levy adopted and the household's tax assessment.
