Nurses can give home foot care
The law lets nurses give basic foot care in your private home. Care includes nail hygiene and trimming, skin and circulation checks, pain checks, and education. Nurses may smooth corns or calluses with an emery board or a pedicure drill with an emery disc. They also refer you to an appropriate clinician when needed. Services only happen in private residences or similar independent‑living spaces. They do not take place in hospitals, nursing homes with 24‑hour care, public or commercial places, or shared common areas.
Rules, fees, and relief for foot-care nurses
The law sets training and safety rules for nurses who give home foot care. You must be competent in foot anatomy, common problems, assessment, infection control, and how to use foot‑care tools. In each certification period that requires 10 hours, at least 2 hours must focus on foot care. The health department sets fair license and renewal fees for these services. If your home care work is limited only to the foot‑care services in this law, you are exempt from the requirements in state laws 23‑15‑2 and 23‑17‑42.
