Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Fees and funds for Towers plate

When you get the plate, you pay a $40 surcharge on top of regular registration fees. Each renewal adds a $10 surcharge. Of the $40, $20 goes to the state and $20 goes to the Friends for arts and preservation programs. The Friends must file a yearly accounting and use Rhode Island–sourced money only for Rhode Island charities. There are no refunds if you cancel the plate early.

New Narragansett Towers license plate

You can order a Friends of the Historic Narragansett Towers license plate from the DMV. It replaces your old plates, which you must return. You must keep the vehicle’s registration certificate in the car. The Friends design the plate with the DMV, and State Police approve it. Plates are produced only after a minimum number of prepaid orders is met.
