Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Disability access plates for private cars

The DMV can issue plates with the International Symbol of Access to qualified individuals. The vehicle must be a pleasure passenger car or a pickup truck used only for noncommercial purposes. This helps identify the vehicle for accessibility needs.

Adaptive plates and parking for people with disabilities

The DMV issues a new adaptive vehicle license plate for vehicles modified for a person with a permanent mobility impairment. To get the plate, you submit a DMV application, a doctor or physical therapist’s certification, and proof of the vehicle modifications. You pay the standard registration fees. With the plate, you can use accessible loading and unloading zones when helping the qualified person and use areas with extra space for ramps. The law also exempts these vehicles from some height, width, or bumper rules that apply to regular cars, as allowed by state law.
