Online vehicle titles and liens by 2027

Beginning July 1, 2027, the Rhode Island DMV runs electronic systems for vehicle titles, registrations, and liens. You can file and track these records online in real time. Banks and their service providers send liens and lien releases electronically. This cuts paperwork and speeds up processing.

Most title and registration filings go online

Beginning July 1, 2027, title and registration applications must be sent to the DMV electronically. Small business filers with fewer than 25 transactions a year do not have to file online. This rule covers application types listed in § 31-3.1-1. The shift may speed processing but adds a digital filing requirement for most filers.
