New Hockey Hall of Fame plates

The DMV offers special Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame license plates. The Hall designs them with the DMV, and the State Police approve the design. Plates are the same size as regular plates and show your registration number. You must remove and return your old plates and carry the registration card. Plates are issued only after a minimum prepaid order is met; the Hall handles the initial order and the DMV sets prepayment procedures.

Plate money goes to Rhode Island charities

The Hall must spend Rhode Island-sourced plate funds on Rhode Island-based charities. The Hall must file an annual accounting report before any plate money is distributed to it.

Fees and refund rules for hockey plates

If you choose the Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame plates, you pay a $40 issuance surcharge on top of normal registration. $20 goes to the state general fund and $20 goes to the Hall; the Hall’s share is paid out once a year. Each renewal adds a $10 surcharge that goes to the Hall. There are no refunds if you cancel early.
