Rhode Island bans invasive plant sales and imports

You cannot import, sell, buy, transport, distribute, introduce, or spread listed non-native invasive terrestrial plants in Rhode Island. For freshwater invasive plants, you also cannot possess them. The director defines the list and keeps one combined list for land and water plants. The act takes effect January 1, 2027. The bans and enforcement start only after the director’s rules take effect. If you break the rules, you can be fined up to $500 per violation.
