Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 4 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

No-cost vaccines for Medicaid members

Beginning January 1, 2027, Rhode Island Medicaid covers all vaccines recommended by the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH). There is no cost-sharing. This applies to people in fee-for-service and in managed care plans. Coverage applies to the extent allowed by federal law.

No-cost vaccines in private health plans

Beginning January 1, 2027, private health plans delivered, issued, or renewed in Rhode Island must cover vaccines the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) recommends. Plans must provide this coverage with no cost-sharing. This applies to individual and group policies, including employer plans issued in the state.

No-cost vaccines for state workers and retirees

Beginning January 1, 2027, state-administered employee and retiree health plans must cover RIDOH-recommended vaccines with no cost-sharing. The Director of Administration ensures state plans follow this rule.

State program must include recommended vaccines

The Department of Health includes routine childhood and adult vaccines recommended by ACIP and the American Academy of Pediatrics in the state immunization program. The health director can also add vaccines needed to protect public health. The law removes the old “available funds” limit, so inclusion is required. This reduces the chance you have to pay out of pocket for these shots.
