Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

New colon cancer awareness license plate

You can get a Maryellen Goodwin colon cancer awareness license plate. The nonprofit designs it with the DMV, and the State Police approve the design. The plate uses your current registration number and replaces your old plates, which you must return to the DMV. The DMV sets prepayment rules. The plate is produced only after enough people prepay, and the nonprofit submits the first order with all paperwork.

RI-only use and yearly reports for plate funds

The Partnership must use Rhode Island plate money only for Rhode Island charities that raise colon cancer awareness. The Partnership must file a yearly accounting report with the DMV before money is distributed.

Fees and funding for cancer plate

You pay a $40 surcharge when you get the plate, on top of the regular registration fee. Of that $40, $20 goes to the state and $20 goes to the Partnership each year. Each time you renew, you pay an extra $10 that goes to the Partnership. There are no refunds if you cancel early.
