Disabled veterans: free registration and license

You do not pay the annual vehicle registration fee or the driver's license fee for one vehicle. You must be honorably discharged and show VA certification or other proof. You qualify if you are 75 or older with a 70% service‑connected disability, or if VA rates you individually unemployable. DMV issues one set of "Disabled Veteran" plates for a car or a commercial vehicle up to 12,000 lbs. The waiver applies to that plated vehicle, and a surviving spouse may keep the plates for life unless they remarry.
