Grocery store deed bans mostly void

The law makes any deed or contract that blocks using land for a grocery store or other fresh-food retail void. A seller may use a short-term covenant only when all of these are true. The seller ran the old store within six months and bought land for a similar-size, similar-products store. The new store is within 0.5 mile and opens within one year of the old site’s closure. The covenant on the old site lasts no more than 18 months. Agreements signed before this law took effect stay valid. This law takes effect upon passage.
