Middletown can offer homeowner tax breaks

The Middletown town council can adopt a local ordinance that gives a property tax credit or exemption on real property in town. The town decides the amount and rules. Relief applies only if the council passes an ordinance.

Veteran tax relief in Middletown and North Smithfield

Two towns can now give extra local tax relief to veterans. In Middletown, VA-classified POW veterans, or their unmarried widow or widower, can get an exemption over $25,000 or an equal credit. In North Smithfield, qualified veterans and eligible surviving spouses can get at least a $350 property tax credit. Each benefit applies only if the town council passes an ordinance, and only to property in that town.
