Stronger privacy for Rhode Island judges

Current, retired, or recalled judges and magistrates who live in Rhode Island, and their immediate family, get added privacy rights. You can send a written notice to any state or local agency to mark your data confidential; an authorized agent may file it with a notarized affidavit. Agencies must remove your personal info from public pages within 72 hours and may not repost it without your written OK. Data companies must stop selling or sharing your info after notice and must remove it from sites they control within 10 business days. They can still share with government, law enforcement, healthcare groups, insurers, banks, fraud‑prevention services, or by legal process. Tax‑delinquent lists can show your name, tax type, and amount owed, but not your city or ZIP after Taxation gets your notice.

Judges can sue for illegal disclosures

Protected judges and their immediate family can sue in Rhode Island court if their personal info is made public in violation of this law. They can ask the court to stop the disclosure or declare their rights. If the court grants relief, the violator must pay their costs and reasonable attorney’s fees.
