Police must file domestic violence reports

Law enforcement officers must complete a domestic violence/sexual assault report for every domestic violence call or investigation, even if no one is arrested. The Domestic Violence Training and Monitoring Unit, inside the Administrative Office of the State Courts, sets the form and how reports are sent. The form must at least include: names, relationship, sex, birth dates, time and date, whether children were involved or present, type and extent of the alleged abuse, number and types of weapons, any prior court order, any language barriers, a felony‑enhancement note, and any other data needed for a full analysis. Each police department submits the forms and the related report narratives electronically at the end of each month. For cases still under investigation or with an arrest warrant not yet served, they must submit as soon as practicable, but no later than the end of the calendar year of the incident.
