Clearer car and trip rules for ride-hailing drivers
The law updates ride-hailing rules for drivers’ cars and trips. A personal vehicle is your own, leased, or authorized car used to give app-booked rides; it cannot be a taxi or charter bus. You may use it without registering it as a limousine or other for-hire vehicle, though you can choose to do so. A prearranged ride starts when you accept a request in the app and ends when the last requesting rider gets out. Carpools, taxis, other already regulated transport services, and arranging nonemergency Medicaid or Medicare rides under contract are not included. These rules take effect on 2026-05-15.
