In Georgetown County, properties inside or affected by the limit of moderate wave action on the May 9, 2023 flood map can follow AE flood standards. The county uses its Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance and the current state building code to enforce these rules. This can change permit steps, what you must build or elevate, and your construction or repair costs. It may also affect flood insurance. The exemption ends when a new moderate wave action line is adopted, and state rules then apply again.
