New payment caps for workers’ comp doctors
Beginning May 18, 2026, the Workers’ Compensation Commission sets a medical fee schedule for doctor and clinician services. It applies to medical practitioners, not hospital inpatient, hospital outpatient, or ambulatory surgery centers. The schedule sets maximum payments and can use Medicare’s RBRVS with one or more conversion factors. The Commission adopts any adjustments each year and creates a system to review bills and enforce payments. This can lower claim costs for employers and insurers but may reduce some provider pay.
Yearly fee review with public input
The Commission reviews the workers’ comp medical fee schedule every year with the Cost Containment Committee. The review considers the medical Consumer Price Index and nearby states’ fee schedules. Before finalizing the update, the Commission holds a public hearing and considers comments. The committee has nine voting members: two provider reps, two insurer reps, two employer reps, two injured‑worker reps, and the chair or designee.
