Fines for missing shrimp origin signs
Beginning October 28, 2026, the Department of Agriculture enforces these signs. For a first offense, you get a warning and three days to fix it. For a second or later offense, the department can fine you $100 to $5,000 for each day you stay in violation. Fines continue daily until you comply.
Food businesses must post shrimp origin notices
Beginning October 28, 2026, food service establishments must post shrimp origin notices. If you serve both imported and domestic shrimp, put this on your menu (if any) and a sign at the main entrance: "Some items served at this establishment may contain foreign imported shrimp. Ask for more information." If you serve only imported shrimp, the notice must state: "Some items served at this establishment contain foreign imported shrimp. Ask for more information." The rule covers restaurants, cafeterias, food stands, and food trucks. Domestic shrimp means caught and landed in U.S. waters; foreign imported shrimp means brought into the U.S.
