Renters: eviction records removed after 7 years

Beginning January 1, 2027, South Carolina removes certain old eviction records from public view. The agency that keeps the public index must remove eviction filings, Orders of Eviction, and Writs of Ejectment. Settled cases and cases later paid in full also count. Removal happens seven years after the final result, or seven years after filing if there is no final result. This applies only when the record shows a defendant’s personal information and no new filing was recorded in those seven years. Records come off the public index and any publicly accessible public-record files.
