Restricted licenses for dental faculty

Effective March 9, 2026, South Carolina issues a restricted instructor license to full‑time dental faculty at MUSC or a board‑recognized hospital‑based residency. You need a current license from another state, territory, or country, meet school credential standards, complete required dental or CODA‑approved advanced education, have no prior refusal or revocation, and pass the board’s law (jurisprudence) exam. The board may waive the advanced education requirement if you are full‑time faculty at rank assistant professor or higher at a South Carolina dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. You may practice only general dentistry or your specialty, and only in clinics or offices tied to the school or residency. The license renews every two years; it ends automatically when your faculty job ends, and the board may revoke it for violations or for not providing requested information within 10 days.

Restricted licenses for veterinary faculty

Effective March 9, 2026, South Carolina issues a restricted faculty license to veterinary school faculty at an AVMA‑accredited college in the state. You can qualify with a license from another state or territory, graduation from an AVMA‑accredited college, or a board‑approved foreign‑graduate credential (such as ECfVG). The board may waive these credential rules if you are full‑time faculty at rank assistant professor or higher at the in‑state accredited college. You may practice only while doing official faculty duties and only in the school’s clinical, hospital, or field units. The board cannot license applicants with refused, revoked, relinquished, suspended, or probationary licenses and may deny for other legal reasons; the license is canceled when faculty employment ends. Applicants must file required documents and pay fees; the initial license fee equals the regular initial veterinary application fee, and other fees may be set by rule but only to cover program costs.
