Human trafficking training for health workers

The law requires many South Carolina health workers to take a one-hour human trafficking course. It applies to LPNs, RNs, APRNs, physician assistants, and physicians in emergency medicine, primary care, internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, or as hospitalists, and to doctors working in public health clinics, emergency departments, urgent care, and community centers. If licensed before January 1, 2026, complete the course by January 1, 2028 and then every six years. If first licensed on or after January 1, 2026, complete it within two years and then every six years. The course is in addition to other continuing education, must cover how to spot victims, state reporting laws, and how to provide care and support, and must come from board- or ACCME-recognized providers. The law takes effect March 9, 2026.
