Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Student athletes' NIL contracts stay private

If you are a student athlete at a South Carolina public college, your NIL contract terms are not public records. The school cannot be forced to give these documents to athletic associations or conferences. This also applies to pending court cases and public records requests without a final judgment.

Public colleges report total revenue-sharing spend

Public colleges must disclose the total they spend each year on athletics revenue-sharing. They do not have to show amounts paid to any individual athlete. They also do not have to show sport-by-sport allocations. Records used to negotiate revenue-sharing deals with athletes, including the deals, stay confidential. This also applies to pending court cases and public records requests without a final judgment.
