Industry and school leaders join board
Beginning May 15, 2026, the Northeastern Technical College Area Commission has 15 members. Nine are county residents (three each from Chesterfield, Marlboro, and Dillon). The Governor appoints these nine after a majority of the county legislative delegation recommends them. They serve three-year terms and stay until a successor qualifies. Vacancies are filled the same way for the rest of the term. The county superintendents of education for Chesterfield, Dillon, and Marlboro are ex officio members. One of Dillon County’s two district superintendents also serves for two years, rotating between the districts. Local industry may have up to three ex officio members, one per county, appointed by a majority of the area legislative delegation, and they serve at the delegation’s will.
