Campus emergency maps for first responders
South Carolina’s law enforcement division (SLED) runs a School Mapping Data Program for public colleges. SLED contracts with a vendor and shares digital maps with schools and public safety agencies for planning and on-scene emergencies. Maps must work with agency and school software, with no extra software purchases or viewing fees, and updates must appear in those platforms. Schools must review all facilities at least every two years and report major changes to SLED and the vendor. The maps are confidential; public bodies cannot release them under FOIA and may disclose only using procedures in Section 23-50-45; private security may disclose only by court order. After the initial contract, SLED pays annual maintenance if dedicated funds are available, capped at 15% of the initial mapping cost.
Annual outside-work reporting for college employees
If you work for a South Carolina public college, you must file an annual disclosure by December 31. List any business you are associated with, the business name, and a short description of your work. This applies to full-time, part-time, temporary, and contract staff. Your school must keep your disclosure data confidential and secure. Each school must adopt and enforce policies, and send copies to the House Education and Public Works and Senate Education Committee chairs. The law does not ban outside work unless state law or your school’s policy already restricts it.
