Beginning May 8, 2025, the law requires clear front labels on cell-cultivated foods. The front of the package must state it is not beef, poultry, fish, or shellfish. Makers and sellers cannot label or advertise these items as harvested animal protein. The law defines these products as food grown from living animal cells in a lab.
Beginning May 8, 2025, normal retail sales are not treated as covered sales under this law. A retailer is covered only if it also manufactures the cell-cultivated product. Each noncompliant package counts as a separate offense for enforcement.
