State finance offices face strict timelines

The Treasurer, Comptroller General, and State Auditor must immediately carry out report recommendations that do not need a new law, under the Department of Administration’s lead. Any state agency must provide help when the Department reasonably asks. Monthly written status reports start no later than March 31, 2025, with the independent monitor’s comments due within 30 days and a monthly public meeting to review them. Within 90 days after March 7, 2025, the three offices must submit a detailed timeline for all recommendations, including those needing new laws. The goal is to finish items that do not need new laws within one year after March 7, 2025. The independent monitor must send a full status report to the Joint Bond Review Committee when those items are done, and no later than March 7, 2026. The Committee may extend the monthly reporting requirements.

State hires independent compliance monitor

The Department of Administration uses funds from the State Treasurer’s Audit Support line to hire an independent compliance consultant. Normal state purchasing rules do not apply to this one hire. The consultant checks and oversees compliance with the AlixPartners forensic accounting report and related FY 2023–2025 studies. The law takes effect March 7, 2025.
