Positive TB test delays elder-care work
If you have a past or new positive TB test, or TB symptoms (cough, weight loss, night sweats, or fever), you must get a chest X-ray right away. If a doctor cannot rule out TB after the X-ray, you are kept out of work until the department's TB control program clears you. You must be checked for treatment of active TB or latent TB under the department and CDC rules. This takes effect May 18, 2026.
TB screening for new elder-care workers
Facilities must do a TB risk check each year and label risk high, medium, or low under CDC rules. Before you have resident contact, the facility must get a signed note from an authorized healthcare provider. The note must show a negative TB skin or blood test within 3 months, or a negative test within the past 12 months, and no TB symptoms. You may start work once the facility has this note. If your negative was a skin test, the facility must place and read a second-step skin test within 14 days. If you had a negative TB blood test within 3 months, no more testing is needed; if it was older, you must get one test within 14 days as a baseline. This takes effect May 18, 2026.
