New checks for multistate social work licenses

The law confirms the South Dakota board’s authority to issue multistate social work licenses under the compact. Applicants must submit a full set of fingerprints in the board’s required form and sign a release to the board. Applicants pay all fingerprinting and background check fees; the law does not set fee amounts. The board sends fingerprints to the Division of Criminal Investigation for state checks and FBI checks. The board must receive and consider the criminal history results before issuing a multistate license. To protect applicants’ privacy, the board cannot share information obtained through this process with anyone not employed by the board.
