Higher mailing fees for vehicle owners
South Dakota vehicle owners and dealers pay $2.50 per mailed decal and $12 per mailed plate. These charges apply per set instead where the registration rules allow. Express mailing carries postage and handling charges as specified. Mailing charges are added to registration or license fees, which remain unchanged. Specified mailing fees go to county general funds or the state motor vehicle fund.
Farmers pay more for mailed harvest permits
Applicants pay an extra $2.50 for each agricultural harvest permit they request by mail. The charge adds to the existing $75 permit fee, making the mailed permit cost $77.50. The permit covers motor vehicles or trailers used in harvesting agricultural products and remains valid for a calendar year.
