South Dakota funds Pierre prison demolition
The law provides $682,825 from South Dakota’s General Fund for demolition of the Pierre Minimum Center in Pierre. The Department of Corrections can remove structures and fixtures, dispose of them, clear hazardous materials, and restore ground level. The Bureau of Human Resources and Administration oversees the project. The Corrections Secretary approves payment requests, and the State Auditor issues payments. Money not lawfully spent or committed returns to the state under existing law. An emergency clause makes the law effective upon passage and approval.
