Farm mutual insurers face board membership rules

South Dakota farm mutual insurers must state in their incorporation papers that their boards have 5 to 15 directors. The papers must name the first directors and list their addresses. Those directors serve until the first annual members’ meeting and until their successors are elected and qualified. Each director must belong to the insurer or at least one of its affiliates. An affiliate controls the insurer, is controlled by it, or shares common control, directly or through other entities.
