Permit holders can salvage bird eggs
The law lets you salvage certain protected bird eggs with a federal migratory bird special purpose salvage permit. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service issues this permit under 50 C.F.R. § 21.95. Eggs of birds that may never be taken or killed remain excluded. Outside this exception, taking, possessing, or intentionally breaking or destroying protected bird nests or eggs remains a Class 2 misdemeanor.
