Free pheasant hunts for eligible military veterans
Nonprofits can host special pheasant hunts during the private shooting preserve season for disabled veterans and U.S. armed forces Purple Heart recipients. Veterans qualify as disabled with a VA service-connected disability rating of at least 20%. They also qualify if VA designates them for Special Monthly Compensation Level K under federal law as of January 1, 2026. Neither the state nor the sponsoring nonprofit can charge participants a fee. The Game, Fish and Parks Commission must issue rules to manage these hunts.
