South Dakota funds water and streamside projects

The law provides $10 million from South Dakota’s general fund to the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources for grants. It sets aside $2 million for water, wastewater, and storm water projects, plus $8 million for statewide streamside buffer projects. Water infrastructure projects must have Board of Water and Natural Resources approval and be included in the state water plan. The department secretary must approve payment vouchers, and the State Auditor issues payments. Money not lawfully spent returns to the state under its budget rules. The law took effect immediately upon passage and approval.
