Hospitals not required to offer flu and pneumonia shots

Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee hospitals do not have to offer flu or pneumococcal shots to inpatients age 50 or older before discharge. The past rule to offer a flu shot each year from October 1 through March 1 is removed. The past rule to offer a pneumococcal shot before discharge is also removed. Hospitals may still choose to offer these vaccines, but it is no longer required.
